How Does Invisalign Work?

Instead of metal brackets and wires, Invisalign uses transparent aligners to straighten teeth. You’ll wear these trays for about 20-22 hours a day during your treatment. Each set of trays will be worn for a couple of weeks or so before moving onto the next set, with each set focusing on aligning a small portion of your smile. Unlike with traditional braces, you won’t have to visit us quite as often. You’ll just have to come in every six to eight weeks to check your progress and receive your next few sets of aligners. Best of all, Invisalign does not restrict your diet. When it’s time to eat or drink, you can easily remove your aligners (provided you brush your teeth before placing them back in your mouth).
Are You a Good Candidate for Invisalign?

Many orthodontic issues can be corrected with Invisalign, such as:
- Gapped teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Overbite
- Underbite
- Crossbite
If your Parsippany Invisalign dentist determines that you’re a good candidate for treatment, you can get started within a few weeks while we wait for the impressions of your teeth to come back from the dental lab. However, if you have underlying issues like tooth decay or gum disease, we’ll have to address those prior to starting Invisalign treatment.
What are the Benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign offers many advantages when compared to conventional braces, including:
- The main benefit of Invisalign is right there in the name – it’s virtually invisible. You won’t have to sacrifice your appearance to undergo orthodontic treatment.
- Traditional braces often take anywhere from 24 to 36 months to align your teeth. Invisalign, on the other hand, can usually help you achieve the same results in as little as 12 to 18 months.
- The metal brackets and wires of braces can sometimes irritate the soft tissues in your mouth. Invisalign’s smooth plastic trays won’t poke your tongue, lips, gums, or cheeks.
How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

There is no set cost of Invisalign because every case is different. The total amount you end up paying depends on a few factors, such as the severity of your misalignment and your ability to comply with instructions. If you lose or break an aligner, or don’t wear them as often as prescribed, treatment could take longer and increase your cost. Also, if your teeth are severely misaligned, you might have to spend more time wearing the aligners. We’ll go over a more detailed and accurate timeline and cost estimate with you at your consultation.
What Influences the Cost?

No two Invisalign treatments are alike; you can expect the final price to vary depending largely on the severity of your case. How many teeth need to be adjusted? How uneven is your bite? Are you looking to address just one orthodontic problem or several? The more complex your condition is, the more aligners you’re likely to need to correct it.
The patient’s age also needs to be taken into account. Older adults may need longer Invisalign treatments; this is because the roots of their teeth are more firmly established, making them harder to adjust. However, patients who are especially young are more prone to forgetting to wear their aligners or taking them out unnecessarily, which can extend the treatment time. On that note, patient compliance (that is, sticking with the plan laid out by Dr. Kitay) is another factor that can affect the final price.
Is Invisalign Worth the Investment?

When weighing the potential costs of Invisalign, it’s helpful to remember that orthodontic treatment has many long-term benefits aside from just improving your appearance. By closing gaps in your smile and straightening your teeth, you make it easier to keep your pearly whites clean and free of the food debris, bacteria and plaque that can increase your risk of tooth decay. Improved oral health means less of a risk for cavities, which in turn means less of a chance that you’ll be spending extra time in the dental chair or paying for additional restorative treatments. In other words, Invisalign doesn’t just give you a more dazzling smile; it’ll also give you a healthier one.
What Can You Expect During an Invisalign Consultation?

First, Dr. Kitay will examine your teeth and gums to figure out exactly what kind of orthodontic issue you’re suffering from, such as crowded teeth or an uneven bite. She’ll also need to determine whether Invisalign or traditional orthodontics would be most appropriate for your case. Invisalign can be a convenient solution, but there are times where traditional braces will be required to make the necessary changes.
The consultation will also be a good opportunity for us to discuss payment options with you. Some insurance plans might cover Invisalign, but others won’t offer this benefit. Luckily, the Rauchberg Dental Group is happy to suggest CareCredit as a third-party financing option; this will allow you to create a payment plan that works with your budget.

Invisalign FAQs
Can you be too old or too young for Invisalign?
People both young and old have experienced great results using Invisalign. Because of the responsibility required with this clear aligner system, it is often not recommended for young children (also because they do not have all their permanent teeth) or those who have difficulty remembering to insert trays after taking them out to eat, drink, or clean. Teenagers and adults are all great candidates for Invisalign. As long as you remain committed to the process, there’s a good chance you’ll be cleared for treatment.
Does wearing Invisalign aligners hurt?
Invisalign aligners are comfortable to wear because they’re made of a smooth, plastic material. Unlike traditional braces that require a metal arch wire that must be adjusted every few weeks and forcibly shifts your teeth, Invisalign gently applies continuous pressure to ensure your teeth continue moving in the right direction. When switching to a new set in your series, you may feel some slight discomfort, but with an over-the-counter pain reliever, it should only be temporary.
What should I do if I lose my Invisalign trays?
It is best if you always keep your Invisalign trays in a protective case when eating or drinking. Placing them in a napkin during lunch with friends will likely cause them to be accidentally thrown away. You might also stick them in your purse, which can cause damage. Should you lose one or both of your Invisalign trays, make sure to keep your previous set so you can return to wearing them until you see our dental team. If possible, you may be able to move forward to the next set in the series. Or, we may need to have new aligners created for you.
Are Invisalign results permanent?
The only way you can be sure that your Invisalign results will remain permanent is to follow the clear instructions provided by your cosmetic dentist in Parsippany. Wearing a retainer after completing your Invisalign treatment is essential. This additional oral appliance keeps your teeth firmly in place until they become solid fixtures in their new location. It will take time, and you must be committed to the process to ensure you won’t require orthodontic treatment in the future.
Can I be treated with Invisalign if I’ve worn braces in the past?
If you had traditional metal braces in the past but didn’t wear your retainer often enough, there’s a good chance your teeth may have shifted out of alignment over time. As a result, you may be wondering if Invisalign is a good solution. While no two cases are alike, it will be up to our team at Rauchberg Dental to determine if you are eligible for treatment. We will need to thoroughly evaluate your oral and facial structures to determine if Invisalign will lead to the results you’re looking to achieve.
